Nanoheterostructures: Synthesis, structure and properties
Recent progress in the rational synthesis of nanoheterostructures and the relation between their structures and properties is reviewed. Nanoheterostructures, which are structures that consist of two or more nanoscale components, are a growth area, having potential applications in fields such as electronics, optoelectronics and catalysis. Scientists in China review recent experimental and theoretical advances in synthesis strategies and growth mechanisms of nanoheterostructures as well as in the relationship between their structures and their optical, electrical, optoelectronic and catalytic properties. They also provide an overview of the experimental and theoretical techniques used to characterize the atomistic structures (high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning transmission electron microscopy–electron energy-loss spectroscopy and theoretical density functional theory calculations) and electronic structures (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and theoretical modeling) of nanoheterostructures.
