Mapping the online ecology of vaccine sentiment

Distrust in scientific expertise by the public poses serious public health hazards, including vaccine hesitancy. This paper provides a large-scale mapping of the ecology of members of Facebook pages that present pro-vaccination, anti-vaccination and neutral views and show that these groups form clusters that interact across cities, countries and languages. These findings demonstrate how different communities organize, interact and influence each other, yielding insights that may guide future interventions.
