Artificial intelligence in breast cancer screening

Shavrya Shetty and colleagues have developed an artificial intelligence system that could aid in mammography screening. Using breast cancer screening data from the USA and the UK, the algorithm can match and slightly improve the performance of radiologists, reducing false positives and negatives. The algorithm is also compared to six independent readers. Streamlining the evaluation of breast mammograms could help expand screening efforts and improve early detection of breast cancers.
